Rest defence / balance while attacking
Coaching focus — what "good" looks like
Who stays home when we commit forward — usually a #6 and the back line balanced. Cover the counter before it happens. Safe attacking is built on this: no overload forward without a base behind it.
Weekly teaching arc
Monday
Recovery + Light Technical · ReinforceLight reinforcement — players see the principle but don't drill it under stress.
Positional walk-through: rest-defence shape (#6 + back line) as the ball moves around the final third.
SFERA cue: Introduce this week's factor. Give it a name and a felt example from Saturday's match.
Tuesday
Tension · IntroduceSmall spaces, fast decisions. The principle in its purest form. 3v3 / 4v4 constrained games.
4v4 + GKs: when a team loses the ball, the opponent counters to a mini-goal. Teams must keep 2 players behind the ball to protect it.
SFERA cue: Load it under pressure. Short reps, sharp cues — name the factor at the freeze moments.
Wednesday
Duration · DevelopBigger spaces, full team shape. Players apply principle in match-like complexity. 7v7+, 8v8, 11v11.
8v8 attack vs defend: the attacking team must keep a rest-defence base, and a failed attack triggers an immediate counter to the halfway gates.
SFERA cue: Apply it under fatigue. Bigger spaces, more decisions — the factor shows up when tired.
Thursday
Velocity + Activation · ExpressMatch-speed transitions and finishing. Principle should now be habit.
11v11 at match speed: finish attacks, while rest defence stops the transition counter in the first 5 seconds.
SFERA cue: Express it at match speed. The factor should be automatic now — cue it in real time.
End-of-week reflection
Did the tactical principle show up in the match?
Be specific. Cite moments.
Did the SFERA factor show up? What does the Mandala data say?
Squad avg movement this week vs. last. Any red flags?

Rules for picking
- › ONE tactical principle per week. Not two. Teaching one thing well beats teaching three things badly.
- › ONE SFERA factor per week. Cycle through all five over 5 weeks, or match it to the tactical principle when the fit is obvious.
- › From the most recent match. What broke down on Saturday? Train that on Tuesday–Thursday.
- › Cycle through phases. Don't spend 6 weeks straight on attacking principles. Mix in possession, transition, defensive work.
- › Build season-long progressions. Plan in 4-week blocks.
